Motivation: What Does It Mean to You?

We all experience motivation differently. Some of us are driven by purpose, others by people, achievement, values, or even the promise of peace. There’s no right or wrong here—only truth. Do you know what truly motivates you?

Understanding your intrinsic (internal) and extrinsic (external) motivators can be a game changer. When your goals, responsibilities, and decisions align with what genuinely fuels you, life begins to feel more meaningful—and less like a to-do list.

So, let’s get clear.

I’m inviting you to do a little self-coaching homework today. Grab a notebook, pour yourself a warm tea or coffee, and find a quiet spot where you can reflect.

Answer the following questions:

  • What motivates you to get up in the morning?

  • What motivates you to be active?

  • What motivates you to go to work?

  • What motivates you to connect with friends?

  • What motivates you to learn or grow?

  • What motivates you to take care of yourself?

  • What motivates you to give back to your community?

Take your time. Let the answers come.

Now, look at what you’ve written. Are there themes or patterns? Can you spot what energizes you—and where that energy may be missing?

Now consider this:
Are there goals or habits you've struggled to build, despite your best efforts?

Try this—reframe them. Ask yourself:
How can I align this desired outcome with something that already motivates me?

The more your daily life reflects your authentic motivators, the more ease, alignment, and momentum you’ll create.

Your Challenge:

Live in alignment with your motivators for one week.
Each day, review your list. When making decisions—big or small—pause and ask, “Is this connected to what motivates me?”

After one week, revisit your notebook. Reflect on:

  • What felt different?

  • What felt easier?

  • Did your outcomes shift?

  • If not, what might have stood in the way?

This simple yet powerful exercise can change the way you relate to your goals—and yourself.

Your motivation is a compass. Let it guide you.

I’d love to hear how it goes.
